NHA in the Community
21 Feb 2007 : NHA donates computers for W Cape education - article on Cape Business News website In the past five years the Western Cape Education Department’s Khanya Project has helped more than a third of all schools in the Western Cape to acquire active and sustainable computer facilities. The Khanya Project relies on both private sector and community involvement to harness technology to strengthen and support the understaffed Western Cape education system. A donation by Cape Town based company Neil Harvey and Associates (NHA) of some 115 items of computer hardware will help get 2007 off to a good start. As an information technology solutions provider to the healthcare funding industry, NHA understands the long term importance of giving young black talent access to IT. Khanya will provide the necessary value add to ensure sustainable benefit. Receiving the donated items in mid-December, Khanya’s Ingrid Graham pointed out that every high school in the Western Cape already had a computer laboratory as part of the province’s drive to make vital education tools available. “We rely on private sector partners such as NHA to help fill these laboratories and to fund the skills to maintain them and provide training.” NHA CEO Neil Harvey said that as an employer of people in the ITC industry, NHA recognised its responsibility in ensuring a steady stream of available candidates. He pointed out that career choice in the ITC sector was directly influenced by early and sustained access to technology. The desktop computers and printers included in the donation will be integrated into a computer centre at a local school. The laptops will be best utilised by facilitators who need to travel with technology between schools. |
